I sat on the bank of a river, wearied from a long day of hiking.

A black raven perched on a branch above me asked, “Hello friend, why are you so tired?”

“I’m tired because I’ve been carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders so others can be freed from the burden. It’s exhausting and lonely up here.”

“No wonder you’re exhausted,” mused the raven. “That isn’t your job. Did you ever think that by shouldering the burden of humanity, you’re making others small? You need to let them hold up the sky. And then it won’t feel so lonely either.”

With those words, the weight fell from my shoulders as a lightness blossomed in my being.

Yes, I need to let others hold up the sky too.
